Decent Restaurants Epsom Way?

I've not long moved in to Epsom and I'd like to find some nice medium priced restaurants/pubs that do good food. I don't mind driving out a bit. Anyone got any ideas?

Reigate's Historic Windmills

Nice to hear that one of Reigate's old windmills has come back to life.

The Wray Common Windmill in Reigate, Surrey, has been beautifully renovated and put up for sale as a unique residence worth over a million pounds.

Derelict when it went up for auction in 2004, it has been lovingly restored.

Reigate's other windmill, over-looking Reigate Heath Golf Course, has been in use as a place of worship for the last 120 years. Aptly named the St Cross Chapel, it is the only consecrated windmill ...

Epsom Downs ... view of London

I played golf yesterday on Epsom Downs. It's an interesting course anyway, but the VIEWS! Breathtaking!!

It was a glorious day, coldish but not frosty, and amazingly clear. From several holes on the top of the Downs, near near Epsom Race Course, we could see across the whole of London to the hills beyond (?Hampstead Heath etc).

The planes could be seen coming in to land at Heathrow to the west and the sun was glinting on the gherkin building (what's it called?) out towards Canary Wharf in ...

Cycle tracks in Surrey

One of my NY resolutions is to do more cycling to get fit but it's a bit hilly where I am, Box Hill. Is there an old disused railway track in Surrey that's been converted for cycling? I can put the bike on the car.

Daffodils? ... Already?

Would even Wordsworth be amazed? Travelling towards London on the A3 yesterday (12th January at 8.00am), I came off the slip road to Esher and was astounded to see a "host of golden daffodils". There they were, hundreds of them, in full bloom, on a part of the roundabout beneath the main A3 road.

Spring seems to be coming earlier every year. A bank of full grown daffodils and we're not even through the second week of January yet! Has any one else seen them?

They were a wonderful ...

Carved Wooden Teddy Bears

Some years ago I was walking in Surrey, probably somewhere south of the A25 near Shere, Gomshall etc, and I came across a quiet lane or bridleway where, in the middle of nowhere, there was a string of carved wooden Teddy Bears.

Someone had cut down some trees leaving stumps about 3-4 feet high and then, presumably with the same chain-saw, had shaped them into tall thin teddy bears.

They were amazing, but I've totally forgotten where they were.

Please! Does anyone know? I would love to take ...

The other day somebody was telling me about the delights of Surrey Honey and its health benefits.

I can't find it in Sainsburys or ASDA. Does it really exist? Is it made from Surrey bees? Is it any good? Where can I get some??
